Michael Sampson: Abstracted Figures
My paintings start from the figure. Drawing from the live model I quickly follow forms and lines to create a blueprint to start out from. These figure drawings serve as the beginnings for my paintings and I transfer the drawings to canvas or another surface. Color and texture relate to the model as my paintings progress, and the memory of the figure drawing session is what emerges.
