Austin MacRae: Light Drama

For more information please go to https://www.instagram.com/austin_macrae_music_art

Austin MacRae creates representational paintings that focus on the poetry in the everyday–a trodden pasture, a crooked tree, or a sunlit power line.  He’s particularly interested in the properties of light, both natural and artificial, and often explore scenes where the two are in competition with–or compliment–each other.  In terms of influences, he counts the Wyeth clan among his biggest artistic influences and seeks to infuse his paintings with a sense of story and character.  Other influences include Turner, Whistler, Hopper, Diebenkorn and Dodd.  Using exclusively acrylic paints at this point, his process includes scrubbing, scraping, sanding, glazing and taping.  His work has been exhibited regionally at the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester, Viridian Gallery in New York City, and other galleries throughout New York and Pennsylvania.  He is the recipient of a Sunny Point Residency from the Arts Council of Yates County.
