Carla Stetson: Meanders

In 2008 Carla Stetson began teaching at Ithaca College in New York state, where she now lives and works in a converted 1860s era barn on four acres the countryside. Stetson received a BFA from Kansas City Art Institute and MFA from Vermont College. She was an Associate Professor at Ithaca College and Chair of the Art Department for 13 years and now works full time in her studio.

Many of the pieces in this exhibit are influenced by fluid dynamics, the study of the winding and spiraling movement of fluids and follow a cartographic impulse. In these pieces, I explore patterns on a grand scale such as the Mississippi River Meander Belt, Finger Lakes watersheds, wind vortices and ocean gyres.
