Teresa Bakota Yatsko: Reimagination

The 3-dimensional book sculptures in this exhibit have been created from a variety of upcycled books that were obtained from the Ithaca Friends of the Library Book Sale. These dioramas hold a variety of textures and dimensions created through folded and carved pages.  Mosses and lichen, tree bark, and twisted branches bring earthly elements into each scene.  The assemblages are like miniature stage sets opening one up to the worlds of the mystical and magical, as well as to simple scenes of treasured moments like getting absorbed in reading a good book.

The 2-dimensional collages weave imagery of human presence and interaction with the earth, sea, and sky.  One can experience the detailed complexities of microorganisms beside flora and fauna under the vastness of celestial worlds.  Like an intricate puzzle, the beauty and fragility of life are meticulously pieced together.  What emerges is a playful curiosity and a deep appreciation for the diversity of the earth’s natural beauty.
